Starting a new educational journey can be exciting, sometimes overwhelming and also full of growth and rewards. The TPI staff is here to help guide students and their families in any way we can. The University of Arkansas recognizes that a positive, engaging first year can make a significant impact in terms of incoming students’ level of academic performance, campus involvement and progress toward graduation. The University of Arkansas faculty and student affairs professionals work together to offer special assistance and promote skills designed to help students experience a fulfilling, rewarding, and successful first year at the University. All programs and initiatives are designed to assist students in reaching their ultimate goal of completing a degree.
A-Week
A-Week is designed to aid incoming first-year students in their transition from high school to college by providing programming focused on student success in and outside of their classroom experience. A-Week begins right after students move-in and is filled with events the week before the fall semester starts. Each day of A-Week focuses on a specific theme related to student success including Tradition, Involvement, and Wellness. A-Week also aims to connect incoming students with both new and upperclassmen Razorbacks. Incoming students are placed in A-Teams that are led by an upper-class mentors who lead them through discussions and events related to the daily topics.
Through A-Week, we hope that all new Razorbacks begin to find ways to make the U of A feel more like their new home. By attending A-Week, you will be welcomed and introduced to everything our campus and community has to offer.
Welcome Weeks
Welcome back Razorback! Every semester, the University of Arkansas and Fayetteville community join together to welcome new and returning students to campus. For two weeks in the fall and spring, the U of A campus goes Hog Wild for HOG W.I.L.D. (Welcome, Involvement, Leadership, and Diversity) Welcome Weeks.
The Transitions Programs & Initiatives invites all students to attend a wide variety of events and activities sponsored by several campus departments, academic colleges, student organizations, and community vendors, all designed to help students reengage with campus and their fellow students back on The Hill.
1St Gen Initiatives
We define “first-generation” as a student whose parent(s)/guardian(s)/support system did not graduate from a four-year institution. Almost a quarter of the University of Arkansas students are considered first-generation.
At the UofA, we recognize the unique challenges and responsibility of being a first-generation student, and that is why this initiative was started in 2021.
This initiative was created to foster a sense of community among first-generation college students at the University of Arkansas and create a network that encourages students to excel and reach their full potential.
Many first-generation students may not have easy access to first-hand information about how to navigate through college, what to expect, and how best to explore opportunities and how to identify support strategies.
Our goal is to support you and your transition to the UofA. Many other students have had the first-hand knowledge of their family members to help guide them, and we want to be that person for you!
